How You Can Take Action Now

πŸ“ 1. Report an Abandoned or Dangerous Property

If you see a building that's falling apart, unsafe, or abandoned, report it to Augusta Code Enforcement.
The more reports they receive, the more pressure there is to act.
πŸ‘‰ Submit a Code Enforcement Report

  • Enter the address of the abandoned/dangerous property and a short description.

  • Optional but Powerful: Report Multiple Times

    • Encourage friends/neighbors to also report.

    • Multiple complaints about the same property increase priority for action.

  • Follow Up (Optional)

    • After submitting, you can track your complaint or call Code Enforcement at 706-312-5050 for updates.

πŸ›οΈ 2. Contact Your City Commissioner

Let him know blight is an urgent problem.
A short email or phone call can make a difference.

Downtown Augusta falls under District 1.
The Commissioner for District 1 is: Jordan Johnson
πŸ“§ Email: jordanjohnson@augustaga.gov
πŸ“ž Phone: (706) 821-1727

πŸ—£οΈ 3. Speak Up at a City Meeting

The Augusta Commission holds public meetings where you can speak about community issues.
One voice matters β€” and ten voices matter even more.

  • Where: Commission Chamber (Second Floor)
    Municipal Building

🏚️4. Pressure the Land Bank Authority

  • Augusta Land Bank Authority exists to acquire abandoned, blighted properties and sell them for redevelopment.

  • Residents can petition the Land Bank to prioritize certain properties.

  • Land Banks can clear titles, demolish, or incentivize redevelopment β€” but need public pressure to act aggressively.

    Submit a Formal Inquiry

    • Email the Land Bank Authority to suggest they acquire the property:

(This is their official contact β€” Ronnie Brown, Executive Director.)

πŸ”¨5. Tell the HPC to Protect Downtown

Many of Augusta’s most iconic buildings are crumbling from neglect. The Historic Preservation Commission has the power to intervene.

πŸ“© Email the HPC and ask them to enforce preservation laws, pressure Code Enforcement, and hold negligent property owners accountable.
